What it is
Majohn's oversize flagship piston filler: ~155mm capped, #8 steel nib with gold-coloured PVD, and — unusually at any price — an ebonite feed. Clear demonstrator version shows the whole mechanism.

For and against
- Ebonite feed — rare below several hundred dollars — and credited with the flow and lack of hard starts
- Huge piston capacity, months on a fill
- Excellent out-of-box writing reported
- Nibs interchange with the Asvine V800
- Clip is very stiff to lift
- Grip flange slightly sharp
- Too long and heavy posted for most hands
- Piston disassembly needs a dedicated wrench
- No branding on the cap at all
The strongest single pen in either catalogue on the strength of independent review: an oversize piston filler with an ebonite feed for around $57.
What owners say
I second this. In fact I just tonight have been writing with my majohn p140 and one of my 9019s. I rate the p140 10/10 and the 9019 a 9.2/10. Both are very, very good, but the p140 is higher quality and writes and feels a small bit better than the Jinhao. Also I'd say Majohn has consistently better quality control. Sometimes a jinhao nib is not so great, but all my majohns are very good to excellent. r/fountainpens · 5 pts · thread
Excellent IMO. The p140 feels like it should be 3-4x the price. r/fountainpens · 5 pts · thread
If you enjoy stubs I recommend you to get an asvine v800 replacemnet nib. It is compatible with the P140 ebonite feed and it's an absolute joy. I did this on my P139 and I don't want to go back r/fountainpens · 5 pts · thread
I've that Green but... I really love the purple (looks more burgundy, right?). I agree about the P140, my favourite between those two. r/fountainpens · 4 pts · thread
My Majohn P140 is one of my favorite pens, and I own pens over the $1K USD mark. I think OP unfortunately just got unlucky which is sad because the P140 is a great pen when everything is right. I understand a first experience with a brand can put a really bad taste in your mouth though. Fingers crossed your P140 has no QC issues! 🤞 r/fountainpens · 4 pts · thread
Lovely handwriting! I’d highly recommend a Majohn P140 if you want to try something a little more expensive but also great. Comes with an ebonite feed and a brass piston. Very wet and smooth writer. r/fountainpens · 4 pts · thread
